Anxiety is the hallmark disorder of our time. Fear from anxiety may seem like a constant partner in every situation, it may occur mostly in social situations, it may spike into panic attacks, or it may chain your life with obsessive thoughts and actions.

There may be times you feel sure that terror will overwhelm you. Without help, you soon become afraid of fear itself. Afraid fear will keep you awake, afraid fear will make you say the wrong thing, afraid fear will make your mind go blank, afraid that everyone will know that you are afraid. You avoid doing things out of fear you will do the wrong thing, but this is a vicious cycle that leads to paralysis.

Anxiety goes hand-in-hand with compulsive and impulsive actions. I am accustomed to helping those who have put something between themselves and the fear. A substance, or a relationship (and then another relationship), or that thing you do over and over.

Life is uncertain. We cannot change that. But there are ways to tame our fears. Research and experience show that we feel safe when we believe in ourselves. When we see ourselves using tools and skills that actually reduce anxiety, and increase our inner strength, then we start to believe in ourselves.
